By Sarah Boucher, Publisher & Editor May 13, 2021

Don't let the "summer slide" hit your kiddos. Read all summer long for your chance to win great prizes, explore new adventures, and share family fun time together. We've compiled a list of libraries and local businesses offering summer reading programs. Know of one we missed? Let us know and we'll add it to our guide!

📚 Grand Rapids Public Library

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to create your own summer adventure at the Grand Rapids Public Library! Do you like to move? Do you like puzzles? Are you an artist? Pick your favorite activities this summer to discover your mystery team. The library invites all kids in the city under the age of 18 to read this summer. Get ready to be part of a super secret mission in the city of Grand Rapids for summer reading fun.

We also have many exciting programs and events to inspire and entertain you all summer long. Participants can register at starting May 31.

📚 Kent District Library

This year, KDL will take you on a Summer Wonder journey of reading, learning and exploring through the great outdoors right here in Kent County! We are partnering with Kent County Parks to bring you some exciting new elements and activities to participate in over the summer. Enjoy activities for the whole family, including outdoor scavenger hunts, park exploration and more. There will also be many of the tried-and-true elements that make KDL's Summer Wonder program so great - reading incentives, awesome programming, access to books and other library materials, fun reading goals for all ages... and it's all FREE!

📚 MI Library Quest

MiLibraryQuest: Summer Edition 2021 is an opportunity for teens across the state to learn about unique animals and Michigan libraries! Teens will find descriptions of a variety of animals spread across the websites of participating libraries which they will enter into their digital field journal for an opportunity to win a prize!  The Quest begins on June 1 and ends on July 31, 2021. The MiLibraryQuest challenge is created by public libraries across Michigan and is supported in part by the Library of Michigan.

📚 Barnes & Noble Summer Reading Journal

Participation is a fun and easy way for kids to earn free books. They simply read a designated number of books – library books, books borrowed from friends or books bought at Barnes & Noble – write about their favorite part in our Reading Journal, and bring a completed Reading Journal to a Barnes & Noble bookstore. Children then choose their free book from the books listed on the Reading Journal and collect their free book from a store near them during July and August.

📚 Schuler Books Summer Reading Club

Children grades K-8 are invited to join. Readers can earn up to three $5.00 Schuler Books coupons. Registration open May 31 - August 4 and coupons can be claimed from June 7 - August 31.

📚 Pizza Hut Book It Program

Enroll online and read your way toward a free one topping personal pan pizza.

📚 Chuck E Cheese Reading Rewards Program

Complete a two-week reading chart and earn 10 free play points with any food purchase.
